The University of Florida College of Medicine has been awarded State Opioid Response (SOR) funds in response to the State of Florida, Department of Children and Families Request for Proposal # RFP072319DSET1, “Medical College Curriculum Development and Implementation for Florida’s State Opioid Response.”
This award will provide $250,000 to expand and enhance the university’s curriculum intended to educate medical students, medical residents/fellows, and physician’s assistant students to provide better care for individuals experiencing pain while also addressing the risks of opioid addiction and substance use disorders. It will also provide funds for a 2-hour continuing medical education (CME) course for faculty to satisfy HB 21 training requirements related to safe opioid prescribing and prevention/treatment of opioid use disorder (OUD).
UF CARE member Dr. Lisa Merlo was instrumental in writing the proposal for this award. Drs. Martha Brown and Czerne Reid, both of the UF Department of Psychiatry, are co-Principal Investigators. UF CARE member Dr. Linda Cottler will Chair the project’s Executive Committee.
